Adam Pearse: NZ Herald political reporter speculates on upcoming 2023 Budget

All eyes are on Grant Robertson, as the Government is set to reveal their anticipated 'no-frills budget' on Thursday. Robertson has promised a solution to the cost of living crisis that doesn't add more to increased inflationary pressure. NZ Herald political reporter Adam Pearse says Robertson has already identified the key themes of this year's budget- cost of living and cyclone recovery- but will throw some 'sweeteners' in to lift voters' spirits. "It's really a balance between spending and fiscal restraint, because if we have too much spending, that could exacerbate inflation, which would then lead to higher interest rates or interest rates will be higher for longer.
