Addressing Jealousy at its Root | Learning to Manage Feelings of Inadequacy & Admiration, Adaptively

from Support, Protect, Empower - The Project Purpose Podcast · host Rachelle Innocent

Addressing Jealousy at its Root | Learning to Manage Feelings of Inadequacy & Admiration, Adaptively Jealousy is a human emotion. Feeling jealous, however frequently or infrequently, is not problematic in and of itself. It's the behaviours that we engage in because we feel jealous that create serious issues. For whatever reason, jealousy can override logical thinking, critical reasoning, and basic fundamentals in human decency. We dehumanize the object of our envy when we act on our jealousy in ways that are toxic, destructive, and in some cases fatal. Jealousy is at the root of gossip, rumours, and acts of malicious intent, yet we often brush it under the rug, and minimize the impact it could have on our lives. Don't make that mistake. Safeguard yourselves from the jealousy of others, and do not minimize the potential for harm that stems from a jealous individual. Having been stalked and surviving multiple abductions attempts is some of how jealousy has shifted and warped the thinking of the men who have stalked, terrorized and intimidated me for the last four years. These were (I assume) normal men, whose entire line of decision-making became degraded because of their inability to reign in the green-eyed monster. So we need to hold ourselves accountable, and recognize the underlying emotions to jealousy, and nip the behaviours that translate as harming others, and thereby harming ourselves, in the bud.
