Adelaide Marriott - Newest Hotel Tells The 152 year-old heritage story of Sir Charles Todd

The story of Sir Charles Todd is not as widely known as it should be because this man who did some remarkabl;e things in his lifetime has a dry river bed named after him, and his wife has a town named after her – they are both recognised in Alice Springs. But the legacy of Todd, first postmaster general of South Australia, includes his decision to erect link Australia with the rest of the world about 150 years ago when he led construction the Overland Telegraph linking our continent for the first time to London and, in turn, to the rest of the world. Graeme Kemlo discovers the story of Todd, who was also a land surveyor, n electrical engineer and renowned spaceologist. It is now the story of the new Adelaide Marriott, built sensitively inside the 152 year-old sandstone GPO, much loved by the people of Adelaide. Graeme speaks with hotel General Manager Paul Gallop.
