Aditi Krishnakumar on That Year At Manikoil, writing historical fiction, and why the timing of this book is so perfect!

In this episode of Tell Me A Story, Aditi Krishnakumar talks about her book That Year in Manikoil -- that year being a period when World War II raged in Europe and the Japanese army was inching closer to India. Raji, her protagonist, a 10-year-old-girl has a lot happening in her life. She and her family are sent away from Madras to her ancestral village Manikoil, her older brother joins the Indian Army to keep the Japanese at bay, Raji's best friend is a refugee from Malaysia, and she has to battle unfair comparisons with her older sisters! Aditi Krishnakumar writes a story that is insightful, endearing and absolutely believable. She has her readers rooting for Raji all while giving us an in-depth look into what life was like for women in 1940s India.
