Adoption
from Dr. Judy WT"Freud"
How does attachment theory and adoption relate? Tonight we spoke of the challenges of being adopted--from being adopted close to birth, to being adopted after several experiences with foster homes. The better and more secure the attachment of the child, the less trauma to the psyche. When a baby is adopted early on--first few days of life, the transition is usually easier for all involved. The more stability, the more security. The theme of when to tell your child that he or she is adopted was discussed, as was how to handle the "adoption conversation." Even though the adoptive parent is who the child bonds with, they may still be curious about the bio-mom and/or dad. If you are thinking of adopting a child, at the end of the day, unconditional love is the most healing force on the planet and love is thicker than blood. Parenthood is not about the biology but about the love and care you give your child. We Shrunk The Tune, “I Want You to Want Me,” by Cheap Trick.
