ADVANCED ENGLISH VOCABULARY FOR IELTS OR TOEFL

These are some vocabulary words my students are studying in class, and I thought they might be helpful for others trying to improve their English or studying for the IELTS or TOEFL. The loud thunderstorm rattled the windows in the house. The little boat stayed steady on the calm lake. Teachers work to instill knowledge in their students. The tree had scraggly branches that looked like they needed a trim. At the picnic, we enjoyed a variety of delectables like sandwiches and cookies. The strong and stout superhero saved the day. She patted the seat next to her, asking me to sit down. In the bright sunlight, she squinted her eyes to see better. Grandpa wears bifocals, which help him read and see far away. The parrot squawked loudly, making everyone laugh. After running, her cheeks were flushed and pink. The bird's beak is sharp and strong for cracking seeds. Smoke from the fire created a noxious smell in the air. The farmer used manure to help his plants grow big and healthy.
