Advent #1 - The God Who Pursues Prisoners

Sin makes people run from God, but God does not remain distant. Isaiah pictures God crossing the wilderness to fetch His people from captivity in Babylon because He has abundantly paid for their sin. Their return displays His glory, while Babylon's strength fades like grass and His word stands forever. John the Baptist later announces this promise afresh, and Jesus fulfils its greater rescue by bringing people home from sin and death.
