Advent: Peace - Genesis 3

from Risen Church NC · host Risen Church NC

As we continue our Advent journey, we come to yet another promise of Christmas: Peace. Perhaps the best way to understand peace, and truly appreciate it, is through a discussion of the absence of peace. This is a reality that we are all too familiar with, on so many different levels. In this message we talk about the reason for the absence of peace in our world - all the tension, animosity and conflict we experience. We trace all of this back to humanity's fall from God and being separated from His presence. Lacking His peace, we descended into a life of conflict and created a world ladened with animosity and tension. Once again, the Good News of Christmas finds us in our distress and offers us an incredible gift. Whereas humanity crafted a world where division was expected, where the flames of conflict were fanned - God went to work to redeem the world, to make peace with those who rebelled against Him, to reconcile us all back to Him. Without our cooperation whatsoever, God went to the most extreme measures to make peace with us. He sent His Son to take on the blood and flesh of Adam, so that we might receive the Spirit of God. Jesus came a son of Adam, so that we might all become sons and daughters of God. On that first Christmas night, the angels proclaimed that peace had come, because God broke the ice of tension between us and Him, and came to be with us. From that day forward, He has never left us and through Jesus we all can find peace with God and allow that peace to flow through us. There are a lot of good reasons for why there is so much conflict in the world. Alas, now there is a better reason for why there can be peace in our hearts, our relationships, and the world around us.
