Advent — The Advent of Hope

from LifeWell Messages

Advent means arrival, and this opening message argues that the arrival of hope was never an afterthought. From Genesis 3:15 onward — the moment sin entered the world — God promised a he who would crush the enemy. The thread runs through Scripture: Jacob's blessing over Judah, God's covenant with David in 2 Samuel 7 , the promise to Abraham, and Isaiah's shoot from the stump of Jesse. Hundreds of prophecies point to one coming Messiah, the bedrock of a hope Israel clung to through drought, slavery, and exile. That promise lands in Luke 1 , where Gabriel tells Mary her son will receive the throne of David and reign forever. The hope of Christmas is not sentiment but a kept promise — and one still future, since the same faithful God has promised Christ will come again.
