Antony and The Johnsons é o nome da banda criada em Nova York pelo cantor e pianista inglês Antony Hegarty, artista profundamente influenciado pelas bandas Soft Cell e Culture Club, de Boy George. Eles se apresentam na edição 2007 do TIM Festival em São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba e Vitória. Depois de passar sua adolescência na Holanda e, posteriormente, na Califórnia, Antony se muda para a "Big Apple", onde estuda teatro experimental e onde formou sua primeira chamada Blacklips Performance Cult. O pianista adota um visual andrógino e aborda, em sua música, temas como a transexualidade, como na canção For Today I Am a Boy (Por Hoje Sou um Garoto). Em 2000, lança o primeiro disco, que levava apenas o nome da banda. A formação pouco convencional mistura o trio guitarra, baixo, bateria com cello, violino e sopros, além do piano de Antony. Ele participou das faixas The Dull Flame of Desire e My Juvenile, do disco Volta, da cantora islandesa Björk. Em 2003 Lou Reed convida-o para reinterpretar Perfect Day para o seu disco The Raven. Reed deu a Antony ainda a música Candy Says, uma homenagem do ex-vocalista do Velvet Underground a uma das integrantes do grupo de Andy Warhol e uma das maiores referências de Antony, Candy Darling.
