It has been reported that hundreds of people are being auctioned in modern day slave markets in Libya. The country is the main transit hub for refugees and migrants attempting to reach southern Europe by sea. They are coming from countries like Nigeria, Eritrea, Guinea, Gambia, Senegal, Sudan and Somalia. Thousands more have lost their lives at sea. The United Nations Refugee Agency has appealed to the rest of the world to help in the rescue efforts underway, but says they have received very little support. The UNHCR aims to vacate 1300 people by end of January next year. To discuss this further we joined by our guests on the line but before we go to them lets listen to this insert.
