African leadership

from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa

According to the United Nations, women’s leadership from the local to the global level is restricted. Women are underrepresented as voters, as well as in leading positions, whether in elected offices, the civil service, the private sector or academia. Women face several obstacles to participating in political life. Furthermore the UN says women in every part of the world continue to be largely marginalised from the political sphere, often as a result of discriminatory laws, practices, attitudes and gender stereotypes, low levels of education, lack of access to health care and the disproportionate effect of poverty on women.” To help us with this discussion we are now joined on the line by:• Belisa Rodrigues, is the Programme manager at the Klau Jurgen Bathe leadership Programme at the University of Cape Town – Belisa also does entrepreneurship and leadership development across South Africa.• Wadi Ben-Hirki is the founder of the Wadi Ben-Hirki (WBH) Foundation, which she created when she was 17 years, to impact the lives of the less privileged, marginalised and disadvantaged through humanitarianism and activism. WBH is mostly focused in Northern Nigeria - Skype : Wadi Ben-Hirki
