In this week’s Global Dairy Trade update, prices edged higher by 1.5% overall, with gains in skim milk powder (+2.9%), whole milk powder (+2.0%), and mozzarella (+4.2%) helping offset declines in cheddar (-3.9%) and butter (-3.1%). Jon Spainhour breaks down why rising European mozzarella prices could begin reopening the door for US cheese exports, though not quite enough yet to drive large-scale movement. On the powder side, international buyers continue favoring discounted product from Europe and New Zealand over higher-priced US supply, particularly in key regions like Latin America and Southeast Asia. With seasonal supply volumes at their lowest and China largely absent from the market, even modest buying activity is having an outsized impact on price direction.
