Against Our Self Interest

from The Blueprint with Eliot Marshall · host Eliot Marshall

During the Civil War the soldiers of the Union army had a choice for President in 1864, Abraham Lincoln vs George McClellan.  McClellan was for ending the war and sending the soldiers home without the emancipation of the slaves.  Lincoln was all in on emancipation.  The Union soldiers voted for Lincoln at a 70% rate.  They voted against their own personal self interest.  How do we get back here?  How do we get back to people doing what is best for the group not what is best for them?
