Age Over Ability in Nevada Schools | Las Vegas News

Families in Nevada are sounding the alarm as the Clark County School District places returning students by age—not academic readiness—forcing some homeschooled or private-school kids into grades that don’t match their skill level. Erin Phillips of Power 2 Parent shares her child’s story: a diagnosed learning difference meant extra time was needed, but the district pushed for grade advancement. She warns this one-size-fits-all policy hurts kids whose parents made education choices for valid reasons—and especially hits lower-income families without private school access. With pandemic learning loss still affecting students, Phillips is pushing for policy reform and even state-level legislation to allow more flexible, individualized re-entry options.
