AGFL Episode 75: Matthew Marquardt

from Age Grouper For Life Podcast · host Age Grouper For Life Triathlon Podcast

In this episode, Colin and Elliot interview Matthew Marquardt, one of the top amateur triathletes in the country. In 2022, he took the overall wins at Ironman Texas, Eagleman 70.3, Ironman Lake Placid, and Ironman World Championship (and third at the 70.3 World Championship in St. George!). Matthew began competing in triathlons after completing his run as a collegiate swimmer during his undergraduate studies at Princeton University; he is currently pursuing his career as a surgeon and studying at the Ohio State University. With encouragement from his coach and some reflection, Matthew realized that triathlon was an opportunity too good to pass up. They decided that he would train hard over the winter (~17-25 hours per week), see how the 2022 season went and if things went well, he would turn professional for the 2023 season. His 2022 racing campaign has been truly amazing and we’re so excited to see Matthew compete in the professional ranks next season. Enjoy the listen as we discuss Matthew’s racing season, student-athlete life, training, and pick his brain a bit! Thank you for joining us Matthew and best of luck to you in all of your future endeavors.
