Artificial intelligence is no longer confined to chatbots, search engines, or software running quietly in the background.It is being connected to cameras, drones, autonomous aircraft, robot dogs, humanoid machines, and increasingly sophisticated surveillance systems capable of identifying, tracking, and interpreting human behavior in real time.On this episode of On the Record with Christian Briggs, Christian examines what happens when AI stops simply processing information and begins interacting with the physical world.The United States is already using autonomous surveillance towers at the border. Defense companies such as Anduril and Shield AI are developing systems that can fuse sensor data, navigate without GPS, coordinate autonomous platforms, and dramatically shorten the time between detection and response. Ghost Robotics is giving surveillance mobility through quadruped machines capable of moving through dangerous terrain, buildings, and other environments where humans may not want to go first.China is moving aggressively in the same direction. Companies such as Unitree are driving down the cost of advanced robotics, while the People's Liberation Army is openly experimenting with robotic dogs, drones, unmanned ground vehicles, and other autonomous platforms. Some of the research underpinning modern quadruped robotics even traces back to U.S.-funded academic work.But the story goes beyond military robotics.AI systems are also becoming better at analyzing vocal cues, facial movement, hesitation, and other signals associated with human emotion. They do not literally read minds, but they can increasingly adapt their behavior based on how they think a person is reacting. Christian looks at the Tony Robbins AI coaching platform, along with internet speculation about autonomous AI purchasing a robot dog, and asks what happens when software gains authority over money, hardware, and physical systems.Then the episode moves into an even stranger frontier: biological computing.Researchers are already connecting living neurons to computers. Cortical Labs has developed systems using real neural cells as experimental computing components, while DARPA has launched research into whether biological processors could someday provide low-power computation for military environments.The biggest question is not whether AI becomes conscious.It is whether systems that can see, interpret, persuade, decide, and act are being given more authority before society has decided who should control them.
