AI Marketing Series (Part 2): - All About AI Employees | S1:E2
from Digital Marketing for Business Owners: The Rank Fuse Insider · host Kevin Pike | Rank Fuse Digital Marketing
AI Agents (Employees), Infrastructure, and ApplicationAI agents are conceptualized as AI employees that can revolutionize business functions, acting as a salesperson who never sleeps, a customer service representative who speaks 10 languages, or a marketer who writes thousands of emails instantly. These agents can automate tasks like answering phones, sending text messages, and managing website chatbots. For AI agents to function effectively, they must have a solid backbone or central hub, ideally a CRM or marketing automation platform, with agents built as native integrations rather than "bolt-ons". The foundational element is the knowledge hub, which acts like an employee handbook, training the AI employee based on the brand's specific needs. This hub integrates data from various sources, including the entire website, FAQs, and explicit instructions. Businesses can leverage marketplace AI agents to avoid reinventing the wheel. Crucially, all communication channels—voice, chat, email, and SMS text messaging—must be linked to the CRM and draw from this single knowledge hub for personalized and smarter communication. Communication and User ExperienceAI voices are rapidly improving, sounding human, which is seen as deceptive today but is expected to become commonplace. When implementing voice AI, some companies have experimented with disclosing the AI's identity ("I'm an AI agent"), but often revert to a more human approach because users find the declaration awkward or refuse to interact. Different demographics matter; older people might appreciate a clear distinction (like the "press one" method), while a younger audience is more accepting of new AI technology. Chatbots should aim to answer questions and, if unable, must elevate the conversation by offering to set up a meeting or call a human.Managerial Benefits and Review AutomationFrom a managerial perspective, AI offers substantial analytical benefits. Managers immediately receive an email transcript after every phone call, enabling them to audit interactions and assess call performance in a fraction of the time it would take to listen to a voicemail. AI can also perform sentiment analysis, consolidating large amounts of data (such as hundreds of phone calls or thousands of reviews) into digestible summaries.AI employees can auto-respond to reviews. Automating responses to positive (five-star) reviews is considered an "easy win," saving human time, especially for high-volume businesses like retailers or restaurants. By connecting the AI agent to the CRM and Google Business Profile (GPB), businesses can tag customers who left a review, enhancing future communication segmentation.Content Creation and The Evolving Human RoleCurrently, AI is viewed as a "C student," capable of basic, functional work (e.g., scheduling a Happy Thanksgiving post). High-level work that requires deep thought leadership or resonant social media engagement still necessitates human involvement. In highly regulated industries (medical, legal), AI-generated content cannot be published without human and often legal oversight, as AI scrapes information from the aggregate knowledge of the internet, which may contain errors. For SEO, merely writing "good content" with AI is insufficient. To overcome the high content benchmark, output must be enhanced with media, such as statistics, charts, imagery, and embedded videos. This requires marketers to evolve their roles, becoming better prompt engineers. Furthermore, marketers now need to convert static data visualizations (like JPEG charts) into indexable, interactive elements using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, leveling up their skills to include development.Ultimately, AI will not replace jobs, but the people who embrace it, know how to program it, and manage and tweak it over time will be highly valuable. Humans must act as ai managers who continuously audit transcripts and reviews to improve the AI's performance.
