アイコンを並べただけの資料から、伝わる資料へ

こんにちは、橋本のりこです。今日は、画像生成AIを使って、資料をどう変えたか、というお話をしてみたいと思います。以前、夫のために学び直した話をお届けしました。安全を守る現場で働く夫から、今年度の訓練計画をまとめた資料を作りたいという相談を受けた、というお話でした。今日は、その資料づくりの中で、特に印象に残っている場面について、もう少し詳しくお話しします。夫から、最初にこんなふうに言われました。「アイコンじゃなくて、内容に合うイラストが欲しいんだよね」それまでの資料は、黒い線だけの、汎用的なアイコンをいくつか並べただけのものでした。ヘルメットの絵、バツ印、歯車のマーク。シンプルではあるけれど、「伝わる」というより、「情報を並べている」だけの印象。そう言われて、私も、なるほどと思いました。そこで使ったのが、Geminiの画像生成機能、通称「ナノバナナ」でした。やり方は、そんなに難しいものではありません。資料に載せたい場面を、言葉で説明する。「訓練の様子」「緊張感のある現場」「チームで協力している雰囲気」そんなふうに、一つひとつの項目に合わせて、イラストを作っていきました。出来上がったイラストを見せたとき、夫が、少し驚いたような顔をしたのを覚えています。「これは、いいな」同じ項目でも、黒いアイコンだったときと、現場の緊張感が伝わるイラストになったとき、見た人が受け取る印象は、まったく違うものになっていました。アイコンだけでは伝わらなかった、現場の空気感や、一生懸命さ、そういうものが、イラストには表れていたんだと思います。職場でも、この資料は、これまでにない切り口として受け止めてもらえたようでした。情報を並べるだけの資料と、その情報が持つ意味や雰囲気まで伝えようとする資料。同じ内容でも、伝わり方が、まったく違うんだと実感しました。私はこれまで、デザインの専門教育を受けたわけではありません。でも、画像生成AIがあれば、「こんな雰囲気の資料にしたい」という感覚さえあれば、形にすることができます。大切なのは、きれいなイラストを描く技術よりも、「何を伝えたいか」をはっきりさせること。それさえできれば、あとはAIが、形にする手伝いをしてくれます。もし、「資料をもう少し伝わるものにしたいな」と感じている方がいたら、一度、画像生成AIを使ってみてほしいと思います。アイコンを並べるだけでは伝わらなかったものが、少しの工夫で、ぐっと伝わりやすくなることがあります。そんな小さな変化が、資料を受け取る人の心に、届くきっかけになるかもしれません。English SummaryToday, I want to share how using generative AI changed the way I create documents.Earlier, I wrote about relearning skills for my husband — how he asked me to help create a document summarizing this year’s training plan for his workplace, a field where safety comes first. Today, I want to zoom in on one moment from that project that stuck with me.At first, he told me: “Instead of generic icons, I’d like illustrations that actually match the content.” The previous documents had used plain black-and-white icons — a helmet, an X mark, a gear symbol. Simple, but more like information laid out than something that truly communicated. Hearing that, I understood exactly what he meant.So I turned to Gemini’s image generation feature — known as “Nano Banana.” The process wasn’t complicated: I described each scene in words — “the atmosphere of training,” “a tense, focused environment,” “a sense of teamwork” — and built illustrations to match each section.When I showed him the finished illustrations, he looked genuinely surprised. “This is great,” he said. The same content, rendered as a plain icon versus an illustration that captured the tension and effort of the actual work, left completely different impressions on the viewer. Things that icons alone couldn’t convey — the atmosphere, the dedication — came through in the illustrations.At his workplace, too, the document was received as something refreshingly different. A document that simply lists information, and one that also conveys the meaning and mood behind that information — even with identical content, how it lands is completely different.I’ve never had formal design training. But with generative AI, all you really need is a sense of “the mood I want this to have,” and it can be turned into something real. What matters more than illustration skill is being clear about what you want to communicate.
