AKEELAH AND THE BEE (2006) Movie Reaction! | First Time Watch! | Keke Palmer | Laurence Fishburne

Jaby & Michael react to Akeelah and the Bee, an inspiring drama that follows a young girl from South Los Angeles with a gift for spelling as she pushes toward the National Spelling Bee while facing personal doubts, family challenges, and the pressure of representing her community. Guided by a tough but caring mentor, Akeelah’s journey becomes about confidence, discipline, and finding her voice. This reaction stands out for its heartfelt storytelling, uplifting message, and emotional payoffs, as Jaby & Michael experience the film’s motivational moments and character growth in real time. Directed by Doug Atchison (Akeelah and the Bee, independent film projects, storytelling workshops, youth-focused narratives, festival circuit features), the film stars Keke Palmer (Nope, Akeelah and the Bee tie-ins, Hustlers, Scream Queens, Lightyear), Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix, John Wick, Boyz n the Hood, Black-ish, Hannibal), Angela Bassett (Black Panther, What’s Love Got to Do with It, American Horror Story, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Waiting to Exhale), Eddie Steeples (My Name Is Earl, Raising Hope, The Guest Book, American Violet, Would You Rather), and Curtis Armstrong (Revenge of the Nerds, Supernatural, Risky Business, Ray, Moonlighting), bringing together a cast tied to major films, TV hits, and inspirational storytelling that continues to attract strong reaction and educational-audience crossover appeal. ___________________________________________________ We've got merch!
