Alberta’s New ALERT Leader | Calgary News

Alberta’s top law enforcement agency, ALERT, has a new leader: Jonathan Coughlan, bringing decades of frontline experience to the helm. With 27 years at Edmonton Police Service and prior provincial oversight roles, Coughlan knows both sides of the law enforcement equation. He’s no stranger to ALERT — having helped build its financial crime unit in 2014 and led organized crime operations in Edmonton by 2022. Now tasked with guiding 350 officers and civilian staff tackling serious and organized crime across Alberta, his appointment signals continuity and deep expertise for one of the province’s most critical security forces.
