Alec Baldwin on Short List for Prosecution in Shooting

On October 21, 2021, while on a New Mexico movie set, actor Alec Baldwin pointed an actual gun, an inherently dangerous instrument, at cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, without first ensuring the gun was unloaded, and killed her without legal justification.  This conduct and outcome are a textbook example of a criminally reckless killing, often referred to as an involuntary manslaughter, a felony remarkably good for a mere 18 months under New Mexico law.However, an argument can also be made for felony murder, which can carry a life sentence.A few days ago New Mexico District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies asked state authorities for more than $600,000 in special funding in preparation for up to four separate criminal trials over the killing of Ms. Hutchins.
