In this activity, an expert in thoracic oncology discusses the expanding role of biomarker testing as well as current and emerging options for targeted treatment of fusion-positive NSCLC. Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to: Describe the role of gene fusions, such as ALK, ROS1, NTRK, and RET, in the oncogenesis of NSCLC and the importance of detecting them in practice to inform treatment decisions; Implement best practices for biomarker testing in NSCLC, including next generation sequencing and appropriate assays for detecting gene fusions, to identify patients with gene fusions who might benefit from targeted therapy; Apply the latest evidence on targeted therapies for gene fusions to inform treatment decisions for patients with gene fusion–positive NSCLC; and Incorporate targeted therapies into individualized treatment plans for patients with gene fusion–positive NSCLC according to biomarker status, current evidence and guidelines, and patient needs, values, and preferences.
