Ali Demirel: Computer Imagination and "Post-Apocalyptic Utopias"

from Post-World Podcast · host Post-World Podcast

Ali Demirel @Ali D  a Turkish architect and video artist. He also studied engineering before pursuing art. He began exploring video art in the early 1990s as part of the Körotonomedya and Magnetmus collectives. In the early 2000s, he became interested in real-time computer-generated imagery for music and audiovisual performances, which led to a collaboration with Plastikman @Richie Hawtin that got him huge recognition. He then expanded this research further into interactive installations by developing his own software(2V-P). He currently investigates specific geographies to find relationships between nature and myth.    Demirel's works have been shown and presented at the Guggenheim Museum (New York), Daimler Contemporary, film festivals and galleries, and multimedia art and electronic music festivals such as Club Transmediale, Sonar, Mutek, and Time Warp.  In this episode, we talk about an engineer's approach to video art, technology and creativity, and "post-apocalyptic utopias".   Post-World Podcast is a series of interviews dedicated to discussing the past, present, and future of culture and society through the gaze and experiences of our guests. It is recorded in the Karl-Marx Studios' bunker, somewhere hidden in Berlin.   EPISODE LINKS:  https://www.ali-m.de https://www.instagram.com/ali.m.demirel/
