Aligning Catholic Values with Financial Strategy: A Conversation with Bill and Anne Hatch   In this episode of Highly Sensitive Money, I interview Bill and Anne Hatch, exploring their journey from conventional finance backgrounds to impactful investments aligned with their Catholic values. The discussion highlights their involvement with the Francesco Collaborative, their transition into social justice and nonprofit finance, and how they navigate their professional and personal lives, including raising three young children.  Bill shares his story of moving from a non-religious background to volunteering in social justice ministries and eventually working with the Jesuits on impact investing. Anne discusses her background in healthcare strategy and how they complement each other's skills in their joint venture, Hatch & Hatch. The conversation also delves into themes of discernment, community support, and creating a more holistic relationship with money.   Meet our guests!   Anne Hatch & Bill Hatch, CFA are the co-founders of Hatch & Hatch Consulting, a firm dedicated to helping social purpose organizations, including non-profits, faith-based groups, and social enterprises, become better stewards of their resources and deepen their impact. Together, they journey with organizations, guiding them to align their assets with their mission-driven goals. Bill began his career in finance, focusing on practical solutions to the climate crisis. His work with BW Group in Singapore involved investing in cleantech and energy transition sectors. A spiritual awakening in his late 20s led him to shift toward service, focusing on marginalized communities through parish and retreat ministry in Toronto. Bill holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and is a CFA Charterholder. His volunteer work with the Jesuits of Canada introduced him to impact investing, where he continues to integrate finance and spiritual values, currently via his role as Associate Director at the Catholic Impact Investing Collaborative / Francesco Collaborative.  Anne has held leadership roles at Ontario Health and Cancer Care Ontario, where she led the strategy and planning for the Cancer Screening programs as well as oversaw the quality management of the labs delivering the organized screening programs in Ontario. She holds a bachelor’s degree from York University and brings a wealth of experience in program management, strategy, and operations. Together, Anne and Bill live in Ontario with their three children, united in their passion for creating a more just and sustainable world.   Podcast Highlights:   00:00:40 Meet the Guests: Anne and Bill Hatch 00:01:20 Bill’s Journey to Faith-Aligned Impact Investing 00:04:00 Meeting Anne and Starting Their Family 00:06:00 Anne’s Background in Healthcare and Strategic Planning 00:09:00 Balancing Family Life with Impact Investing 00:11:20 Pooling Resources and Building Hatch & Hatch 00:14:20 Explaining Financial Discernment 00:17:20 The Role of Community in Values-Aligned Investments 00:19:40 Francesco Collaborative Merging with Catholic Impact Investing 00:22:00 Catholic Social Teaching’s Influence on Financial Decisions 00:24:30 Challenges of Navigating Extractive Wealth Systems 00:27:50 The Concept of Enough and Financial Generosity 00:38:20 The Financial Backgrounds of Bill and Anne’s Childhood 00:43:00 Transitioning from Hatch & Hatch to Francesco Collaborative 00:56:00 Podcast Wrap-Up: Values, Finance, and Family Resources About Anne & Bill Hatch.
