On a cruise around Africa, Alistair Smith opted for a shore excursion on Tenerife in the Canary Islands. But instead of going with the crowds to the Spanish colonial buildings or the Santa Cruz shops, our veteran newsman headed for the hill - the tallest peak in Spain.
