Listen to some of today's key nurses who work and practice in academia settings and talk about the challenges they face in today's modern medical world. So please welcome the host of All About Nursing, Dr. Joyce Batcher. Good evening.
I'm your host, Dr. Joyce Batcher, and this is All About Nursing. And we're live on the BBM Global Network in Tune Radio. This evening, I have a very distinct guest that I'm very excited about having on the show who is via Strid, who will be sharing what her journey has been like and becoming a holistic healer.
Olivia is the owner of the Heart Holistic Healing Center in Spice, which is Texas. And she's had a very unusual path that I'd like to just share some highlights of. Olivia has been doing energy healing since 1985. She received her Master's of Arts degree in transformative theories and practices from the Atlantic University that was founded by Ecker Case.
She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy and speech communication from the University of Texas in Austin. She's also graduated at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, which is located in Buckart, Florida, having completed both the four-year professional studies program and a Bachelor of Science degree in Healing Science. She's a licensed massage therapist on Wayne Massage School in Austin, Texas. A spiritual mentor program through the Atlantic, Hawaii, and a public school system.
Olivia has been a facilitator for Austin Center for Adetitudinal Healing, where she worked with at-risk teens. She worked 24 years in a large hospital network, supporting with finances, staffing, and technology, which brought her very close to nursing and patient care needs at the bedside. Her culminating project for her Master's in Mind, Body, and Spirit Wellness focused on providing education and research on holistic care practices for bedside nurses through a pilot project that she has assigned. She's taken this passion to her private healing retreat, other practitioners offer private sessions and workshops to educate and facilitate wellness and set professional health care settings to be integrating holistic care for nurses and patients and providing consulting services to really continue this vision.
I've got the pleasure of working with Olivia directly, so I think you're going to really enjoy hearing more about pathway that she's been on and where she's going. So, Olivia, maybe you could start by just sharing with the audience. Did you know you wanted to be a healer when you were younger? Well, thank you, Joyce.
I really never imagined I would be working in the healing arts. When I was young, as a child, I played with business forms and invoices and receipts of all different colors instead of playing with dolls. I liked organizing them and making up stories about customers. So, my career really started with business management, and I do like numbers and efficiency.
But what started my interest in healing was my own healing. My childhood was traumatic with the death of my mother when I was 12. I suffered abuse from my father because he was ill from alcoholism, and then I was also separated from my older siblings at that time. So, in my teens, I was pretty emotionally numb, but was very responsible and conscientious.
I liked school, I got good grades, I even skipped two grades. I was in a hurry to get out of school and move out of the house on my own. I also did a lot of sports, and that really helped me to get my mind off all the painful stuff. My conscious healing journey began about 24 years old when I found myself in tears when I was around groups of people, and I didn't really understand what was happening to me, and so I needed to find out.
At that time, it was in the 70s, and I did a training called S, and it was really very healing. It got positive and negative reviews at that time, but really good for me. And I also, at that point, was very interested in how we create our lives on purpose. See, I would say, soon after that time, my son was born, and I knew that I had to continue to heal and get stronger.
And be able to be the best mom I could for him, and he was an absolutely an inspiration in my healing journey. I was a single mom when I started my undergraduate work. I did not know what I was going to do then as well, but I took all the intro courses, the basics, out of no one really where I was going. And then I took intro to philosophy, the love of truth, and I fell in love with it.
I actually cried my first class because I knew this was my path. I finally discovered it. Do you think that some of that has to do with the acro-sympathetic skills that you have? I think it absolutely does.
All the self-healing work. And I really don't know if we're destined to a certain path, but I believe we have propensities to go along a certain journey. That is going to be what makes us feel most purposeful and uses our talents and skills at the highest level. That's really awesome.
Well, I was going to say philosophy seems to really reflect how I thought when I was alone. I would be wondering about God. I would be wondering what is life really about. And so I went into a pre-law philosophy program because I love logic and reason.
And all of those things seem to work very well in developing my empathic and... Amazing. ...ability is really proud and... ...and I think it's very strong.
...and just so you know, I don't know if you're cutting out for everybody, but you cut out for me every once in a while. I don't know if you're here everything. I feel like you repeat something. So about a year into my undergraduate studies, a friend told me that I might like meditation because I was kind of stressed.
And she said it lines up your brainwaves for learning and reduces stress. And I didn't know that meditation was spiritual at that time. And I was kind of denying there was a God because of the nightmares that I'd lived. I was brought up Catholic sacraments left behind in the teenage years.
So I decided to take this course in transcendental meditation. And I immediately felt this connection with heaven. It felt like I was being held in the hands of God when I would fit to meditate. And within a few weeks, I was having what I would call now mystical experiences with a sense of purpose and that there were people that I needed to help.
I paid it twice a day, had a regular practice, really started discernment of there's this voice, this inner voice that's speaking. And it seems to take me in a very positive direction. That's wonderful. And it seems...
It seems... ...it is something that we definitely want to explore a bit more. But this is all about nursing, Dr. Joyce Bachelor, we're live on the B.B.

Welcome back to your listening to All About Nursing live in the B.B.M. hosted a show and I have with me this evening, Aluvia Stritt, who has been an experience in how she began to go on a path that's taken her now to be holistic healing retreat in spice with Texas. So thank you for sharing some of her.
She started talking about meditation and some others practices. Why do you emphasize the inner life that could I've heard you talk about that before? To me, healing on all levels begins with coming into ourselves and knowing ourselves, discovering what we think, what we want to create, what we need, how we feel. So from this place of the inner life taking our eyes away from the outer world and the outer sensations and getting quiet, we can start questioning reality.
For example, what animates us, what keeps us alive? We have an energy source and it's not batteries. So what is that? Like being curious about what that is.
Also in the inner life we can develop that personal relationship with the divine, whether it's spirit, God, the universe, nature, but we develop within that inner life more of who we are. As we recognize the part of us that has that greater wisdom and is peaceful, we can identify more with that part of us and that's very creative and has a different perspective on life. We can explore the unknown and find faith in the process of life. Also in the inner life we're going to discover things like our fears and our courage and our dark hearts, which need light and love and understanding and self-compassion.
I really love the spiritual, the metaphysical, unseen, the intangible. So it was a very natural path for my healing. And so I'd like to feed this practice of the inner life and looking within. Thank you.
Thank you. So maybe you could share with me a chance how you really started to work in healthcare. Okay. Well, that was another surprise.
I was in Hawaii previously teaching school to pay through eight. And I wanted to get back to Austin where my family was. We migrated from New York City. And when I got here I wasn't sure what I was going to do.
So I went to a temp agency and started doing some administrative work and was given a temporary assignment at a hospital, which I didn't like because my mother had not come home from the hospital. But when I walked in the front door of the hospital, it was like there was this big spiritual light in the entranceway, which I thought was pretty strange. And I knew that everything was going to be all right. I didn't know I'd say that for 24 years, but it just seemed like it was going to be a good place to be.
And it certainly was, Joyce, because that's where I met you and had the gift of your leadership for most of that time. So I came in as a business manager after my temp assignment and then I grew into IT project management. And this is what brought me close to the bedside. And it was a perfect environment for me because being with nurses and doctors who understood and supported my healing work, maybe feel like I'm really in the right place.
Absolutely. So maybe a little bit about why you decided to create a holistic nursing care pilot at the hospital. Well, I guess it's getting redundant, but everything has been a surprise. I was at Atlantic University, Casey's University, and working on my master's through a distance learning program.
And I really liked Casey's work. He was pretty phenomenal. And he was, for me, a role model for spiritual healing. In fact, he was named the Fallistic Medicine meetings he did in the early 20th century.
So I was exploring ideas for my culminating project. Nothing excited me. And one morning I woke up at four o'clock and heard the interview saying that I would be providing holistic education for bedside nurses. I think first I said, what?
Because I was really surprised and excited. And I thought, this would be really great. So I called my advisor on East Coast, just waited till three hours till I could make the call. And she was really excited and said, this is it.
This is the project. And as soon as I got that clearance, I called you Joyce. I know you may remember that I did that. I just asked you for 15 minutes to present an idea.
And then you heard it and you went to your bookcase and you took down a split pie pile of papers and put them on the conference table and said, I was wondering who was going to do this. Because what I presented was this, you know, pilot for nurses to integrate holistic care. And then you started directing me into the internal resources that were going to be essential to get started. So that's what basically initiated the nursing care pilot.
I could say that. I was just going to say that the first steps were to enlist the support of the nursing leaders and for them to decide who would who in this network of 10 hospitals would would participate in the pilot. And that process were very interesting. Well, I hope you share a little bit more about that in just a little bit.

I'm your host, Dr. Joyce Bachelor. I'm all about nursing. We're live on the VBM Global Network and TuneIn Radio.
And just before the break, Olivia, who's my guest on the show this evening, who is the owner of the hearth holistic healing retreat out in Pfei, Texas, was sharing with us how she had come to the decision to create a holistic nursing care pilot at the hospital that she was working at. And so I think we left off with really having you describe for the audience, like what's so important about holistic healing. Why was this something that you had such passion for? Well, I think for most of us today that balance and wellness are not a constant state.
And each time we realize some kind of imbalance that we have, we're at a learning edge. And I think this is how we grow. We learn a lot when we're not going off our feet and feeling adequate to meet life challenges. Now, holistic care includes many methods that enhance relaxation, rest, peaceful mind, and emotions, and really maximizes the body's potential for healing.
And access is our internal healing system. Healing is a path to the inner life once again and can support and are resiliency in facing stress. Also, we can feel our joy and passion again through these approaches. It's very therapeutic.
It can work on its own, just making choices to use different holistic methods, or it works beautifully alongside traditional medicine. It considers the needs of the whole person, that mind, body, emotion, spirit, all of that, and how it's related and connected. And most of the holistic practices can be self-administered, like breathwork, nutrition, guided imagery, creative, also good to explore methods that require health, like acupuncture, massage, pet therapy. People love pet therapy.
They love it in hospitals too. And holistic healing allows us to take more responsibility for affecting our own condition. I think that what you're talking about is just so timely, because we've been talking on other shows about the fact that there's so much stress and burnout, and just the pace of change and health care right now is causing, as you know, a lot of people to be at all time high when it comes to feeling stress. So maybe you could share a bit about what some of the lessons learned were from the nursing pilot that you had.
Okay. Ultimately, the success of the nursing pilot came from the nurses were glad to have support in serving patients in the way that they intuitively knew was best and gave them a feeling of fulfillment. When we gathered the nurses, most of the nurses that participated in the pilot were already interested in holistic care. And still, when the data collection showed really great leaps in learning from where nurses were and what they learned, we tracked what they were able to use with the patients and even asked for stories as far as, you know, what sense we're experiencing, what the feedback was.
Things that were learned from the pilot was that it's really driven by nursing leadership's commitment and how important nursing education is in this process. Nurse leaders, nurses and educators are also great facilitators. They took part in delivering the different parts of the holistic care. And also, there needs to be a way to measure these results, and we use pre and post questionnaires about the nurse's skills.
We use data tracking tool for a limited period of time. And some of the data was actually tracked in our documentation system. So that was nice because the nurses only had to go to one place to enter the different modalities that they used. Also, it's important at the, in our network to have a mix of the nursing specialties like we had MedSurgs, we had businesses, we had Children's Hospital involved as well, and Oncology.
And the Oncology unit actually was during the HCAP measurements, and their unit had showed there was a derailleur for them using holistic methods and how their HCAP scores had it. The budget as far as this is the modalities we used did not cost anything. It was the training hours for the nurses, and that was very efficiently done. Also, the nurses transferred knowledge to the clinicalist to the pilot was over.
To keep the work moving. The key methods of holistic methods were healing presence, where we're giving, we have ourselves fully present, and we give undivided attention to the patient so that they can feel safe and relaxed. And breath work, which was being used quite a bit in our network, that took a big leap of about 30% in additional. You know, the breath work and the things that you're describing are so simple to do, and it's so impactful, and it just seems like we need to get that kind of information out more to our clinicians in general because it's very low cost, easy to learn, and yet, as you know, from your work, it would be very effective.
So, you have mentioned that the nurses reported some positive things with their patient experience and patient satisfaction, one unit, and as you described that, I kept thinking to myself, well, like philosophy always was if I took care of the nurses, and they had a good environment that they would then, in fact, take good care of the patients. And so, maybe we can talk a bit more about that when we come back, but right now we're coming to you live with the Human Global Network and Tune in Radio. This is all about nursing, I'm Dr. Ray Spatch, the host of this show, and it's time for a break.
You are listening to all the other things you can do. The first thing you can do is listen to the most beautiful potential with limitless growth published by I Universe. Hawkins reveals strategies to help readers accomplish more. He believes the book can coach them to greatness.
Hawkins says that the best athletes get to the top of their sport with the help of coaches, mentors, and others. He shares diamonds that helps readers reflect on what motivates them. I'm Dr. Ray Spatch, the host of this show, and I have a wonderful guest on the show this evening, Olivia Estrid, who is the owner of the Heart's Holistic Healing Retreat Center that's in Spice with Texas. And just before the break, she started to tell us more about the pilot work that she did in the host of the team that she and I used to work with. And I had just started to ask the question because I think it's an important one.
What did the nurses report about the nurse patient experience during the pilot? Maybe because you're a little bit more about that, Olivia. Sure, thanks. The nurse experience was consistent in being happy that they were in the pilot, that they learned from it, that kind of transformed the different types of holistic.
We had just a certain number of holistic modalities that they used in queer guided imagery, touch therapy. I actually taught some massage that can be done in seconds. That really helps to relax the patient. We did mindful listening, suggestion therapy, which is like affirmation positive thinking, and also prayer with a patient.
And with their spiritual, so the nurses meeting the patient where they are with that. A few stories from the nurses and how that worked. This was an unusual story from one of the nurses who felt that this patient was in so much distress and needed about 45 minutes, one to 45 minutes to administer these holistic different holistic methods and made arrangements with the charge nurse and the clinical assistance to have this undivided time. She was a patient that had multiple acuthoraphic final fractures and was very uncomfortable and wasn't able to, after her morning assessment, and had that designated time.
She did a bath that combined gentle head to toe massage, holistic touch and breathing and visualization techniques, and used the unit's portable CD player to relaxation music as she worked. And the patient was marveled at the relief and expressed gravity in seeing his wife's pain relieved and it relieves anxiety about her distress. And then the following day she followed up and she didn't have to spend much time at all and was able to do a gentle back rub and relaxation breathing and the patient was happy to be able to transfer to a bedside commode instead of using the bedpan, which wasn't really what they wanted to do. And so again, that nurse said how rewarding that was.
Another person mentioned, another nurse mentioned that a lot of her patients were in enormous amount of pain. And so she had a lot of opportunities to apply the practice methods that she had learned. Seeing techniques again, easiest and quickest, reported feeling more calm and less anxious, and it seemed to give them something to focus on while waiting for the pain medicine to take effect. There's a story of a man that had road rash from a motorcycle collision was in tears and the deep breathing really helped him and massaging parts of the body that didn't have the road rash in two to three minutes.
And his pain score was reduced from a nine to a five. She said, I don't know if it was, she doesn't think it was analgesic alone and the wife agreed that the continued massaging him when his pain was escalating and seems to enjoy being able to do something for him. Another patient, sure if we have time for another patient's care, terminal stage of her illness and healing touch and she was calmer, she actually was smiling and she gave a hug to the nurse and gratitude. Most of the applications were for pain management and anxiety for calming and relaxation.
This nurse did breath work with her and guided imagery. She was missing her garden and nurse took her through, guided imagery of her garden and wearing a large sun hat and being in her garden and seeing the new sprouts on the plants. And within a few minutes, the benefit she said was profound. The patient appeared at ease and was able to listen to the doctor and hear what was being said to her where it was very difficult for her to do that.
Again, this nurse was how much spoke of what great benefit it was to her and how rewarding it was to help this woman in her time of need. So you're describing, I mean, we'll be only thinking that this is a dresser and the joy in the workplace having nurses really feel good about the kind of work that they do with their patients. I also heard you talking about how it's not just about opioid, but pain addiction issues that we've had on discussion from the prior shows. And then I really enjoyed the fact that the family will be able to get involved in helping to learn about holistic touch and massage and what they could be doing for their loved ones.
So those are just wonderful, wonderful examples. Is there anything else that you want to share on that? Or would you like to talk a bit more about the work that you're doing as an energy healer? Well, just in regard for time, I guess I'll go ahead and jump into that.
See where I want to really the energy work for me started after I was head started meditating and where people would come. You know, they would they would be referred to me and just come out of the blue and see what their healing needs were and work with them without hands on touch. But working with the energy field and and giving them information about where they might head for their own healing. Awesome.
This is all about your host Dr. Rachel. We're live live on Global Network and Tune in Radio and it's time for us to take short break. Dr.

You're listening to all about nursing live and the BBM Global Network and Tune in Radio. I'm Dr. Joyce Bachelore, the host of the show. Before the break, Olivia, I move my guest with me this evening, Olivia Stritte who is with the she is the owner of the Hearth Holistic Healing Retreat Center in Pfeiswood, Texas.
She had started to tell us a little bit about her work as an energy healing and explaining what does the work of an energy healer involved and how do you find it to be so helpful to people. Maybe we can go back to that and have you share a little bit more with you. Okay, thanks, Joyce. From an energy healing perspective that imbalances the illness starts on the level of consciousness, even if we're not aware of what's in our consciousness.
The awareness of and how we manage our thoughts and emotions can impact our health and our relationship to whatever is challenging us in life. So for my work, for example, people usually come to see me with a healing need in mind. They might feel numb, depressed, lack clarity or motivation. They may feel hopeless.
They don't know what will make them happy. Their relationship might not be working. Their job is a grind. They have high level of burnout, unending financial issues.
They may feel that they have no control in their life and are angry and know they're not living what's possible but don't know how to change that. They're trying to find their perks next to do in their life. They may be grieving and they may be in a lot of fear. When they come to me and I'm doing healing, I'm in an expanded state of consciousness and awareness where I'm receiving energy and spiritual messages.
I also receive earth energy. And so I'm kind of like bringing heaven and earth and energy together. So I'm using high sense perception, which is sometimes people call it psychic ability, but the five senses, the physical senses we have, we also have on a metaphysical level like your touch, mouth, taste, hearing and sight, all being used in this energy healing work. It is a state of healing presence with people where they can exhale and feel safe and comfortable to explore and take a look at their inner life.
I'm able to discern areas in the energy field that need attention and healing. And each session with a person is very unique, feel that whatever they most need when they come for a healing session is what is addressed. And some of the work can be described as balancing and charging the chakra system, which are energy centers, which run through our whole physical body. And the energy work actually enhances the flow and movement of energy and consciousness.
The physical body is one layer of it, and then that's very observable with normal sense perception. And then we have what's going on at the heart level, the mental, the emotional, the spiritual level. And all these levels are interrelated. Now there are two other levels.
One is called the Hark Dimension or the Hara, which is the level of intention and our desire to be here and live these human lives. And there's another level also that's called Core Store. And that's our spiritual light, which comes all the way through the mitochondria and the cells of our body. So I love this work.
And I work to strengthen and enhance the presence of the essential energy. And we're all functioning with them. It's what changes our awareness of them and how we invite these higher energies to impact our daily living. Also for me, education.
I like people to leave with more information than they came with. I want them to be able to develop and grow on their own. And for example, one of the important learnings, I think, for all of us is ourselves in our experiences without any judgment. Just we are, this is the experience I'm having.
And be curious about it. And question what's happening with our beliefs, our emotions, and who we know ourselves to be. So we stay present with our own life and our own life and also during the healing sessions. So energy work brings awareness to habitual patterns in the way that we think and manage our energy.
And brings energy where it's most needed. I've had fun. It's been really wonderful that I've been able to watch you over the number of years with your own energy coming to now. I think your dream being the creation of your holistic healing center.
And so I want to be sure that you could have a little bit of time to tell us about that because you've been helping others in so many ways, but you've also had a long-term vision that you've been very nabbatical about. And maybe you can share some highlights of how you can see to this idea and then how you got there. Okay. Well, actually, my healing work has been that long-term vision.
And however that was, you know, it's changed over the years, how it shows up and how I work with people. It's deepened very much. The holistic healing center was really an outcome of the nursing pilot. And because I love that work so much and spreading the word and teaching it and working with groups and learning the different healing modalities, I had an opportunity to change my into the healing center, which is a pretty large space part of what I've used for.
That's my where my private practice is. And so I started renovating the space and then I had a birthing party about two and a half years ago, because I thought the community needs to be involved and decide what do we want to use this space for? Classes, support groups, workshops. And so the community really did help formulate the vision for how the healing center was going to evolve.
And we'll talk more about that in just a little bit. This is all about nursing and your host, Dr. Joyce Bachelor. We're live on the Beaden Goldwim at Work Intune and Radio, and we'll continue this conversation when we come back.

Little is known about this time because we did not always have a written recorded history. It was around 3100 BC when the Sumerians invented the first written language and everything that preceded this time is prehistory. The prehistorical record includes all of women's unwritten history from 30,000 BC to the time that men began achieving political power around 3,000 BC. Male feminist artist Kimberly Berg maintains a strong position in educating and inspiring both men and women through his devotional art to the goddess and all women.
Studying their history is paramount to understanding who women were and who they would become later living in a patriarchal society. On your host, I'm your host, Dr. Drey Spatula, and all about nursing. It's from the Vegan Global Network and Tooning Radio, and I have with me this evening my guest, Oubia Stritt who is the owner of the Heart's holistic healing retreat at the Town of Fr Salton, Texas, and just before we took a break, Elubia was telling us a little bit about how she came to have this vision of creating this center. And I think it'd be great if you could share a little bit more about some of the activities that you have planned right now, in terms of what you're offering, based on the information you got from the community when you had your birthing party and all of that.
Great, thank you. Well, Leilani Clark is doing Kundalini Yoga and Gong meditation here, and it really is something to be experienced. It is a gentle and deep and yet subtle healing process that changes the cellular and heightened self-awareness. She also uses for vibrational medicine.
We have Carrie McKeil-Ree, who's the president of the McKeil Group, and she's been in the business world providing assessment tools, skill development and coaching, which she's bringing here to the center. And she leads in discovery, self-discovery and taking action, exploring that inner life and group interactions and planning next step. Then we have four nurses who are doing a focus group for a CEU program for RN Resiliency, at Leesa Body, Jan Alexander, Pan Looper and Eileen Boliger, and they will be presenting practical applications for using essential oils to support the body, mind, emotions and spirit. And they highlight research and using complementary therapies for emotional support and discomfort to the digestive system and sleep and even more than that.
And I myself offer workshops each month that focus on the inner life and getting answers to our questions, resolving our problems through that higher wisdom. I help folks to act their own high-sense perception and have the private healing sessions. I do field work homes and ranches with people in their horses. So there's a lot going on from my side.
That's wonderful. And you've shared so many wonderful things this evening. I was just curious, what are the walkways that you would like to have for the audience? What do you want to make sure that they really understand and remember about everything you've been discussing that could help them?
But really exploring the inner life to me is where the answers are. I think in calming ourselves and being introspective, we come to know ourselves better and hear that inner voice that wants us to have the best, most rewarding life. If you don't have time to meditate, then I'm thinking it may be too busy and may need to flow down a bit. I feel that in all of our individual paths in our work and our lives that if we follow what interests us and what makes us smile, we're on a good path.
There's no skill or self-development that's ever wasted. It all gets used in the illness of our lives. It takes many steps, as you said earlier, to move into our true calling. Everything in life is an opportunity for self-awareness and self-healing.
I would say start where you are, have faith in a higher power, trust in the process of life, and follow what feels next. And really, miraculous things can happen. That's wonderful. You've been just hearing so many wonderful stories and examples with us, Dee Dee, thank you so much for being on the show.
