All Authority

from Cyril Guerette — Sermons & Teaching

The Groundswell Church, The Seven Churches Today · Matthew 28 “Now again, we don't have faith in ourselves and the things that we want to be done. It's not like, Oh, I have faith that this will be done because I want it to. No, I have faith that Christ can do this. I trust that he can do that, and I need to recognize the power of faith. It's a difference between righteousness and sin. It's a difference between things getting done and nothing ever happening. It's time for the church to claim the authority of Jesus again in his name. It's time for the church to look for the authority of Christ to be working out for us. Where we can ask for peace and see it happen. Where there's content where all those people will never, ever connect again. They'll pray, empower, and think that Jesus can do it. Now again, He'll do it if He wants to do it. If He doesn't want to remove the messenger of Satan, then our prayers aren't going to force it to. But, if we don't pray to remove the messenger of Satan when He wants it to, then it won't go. That's the reality here. We need to be praying prayers of faith, prayers of authority, prayers of trust that Jesus can make these things happen. So we need to repent of this. We can be agents of love and power if we actually believe that he can do this. Where we expect that, you know, I can pray for someone and they will come to know the love of Jesus rather than, oh no, that'll never happen. So no, are you praying truly that they come to know Jesus? Because Because they can. We need to live in that power. We need to not live in fear. We need to not have a spirit of fear.” Passage: Matthew 28:18–20 Read the post: https://www.cyrilguerette.com/sermon-blog/2022-11-27-all-authority Today the people of God, the Church of Jesus, find themselves in difficult times, feeling uprooted and despised by the general culture. When we look back in history to the early days of the growing Christian movement, we discover that nothing is new under the sun. As the Apostle John sat on Patmos, he was visited by the living and glorified Christ himself, and was told to address the angels of the seven churches in Asia Minor (modern day Turkey). As we read the warnings and blessings given to these seven churches, we realize that each of these churches exists today all over the world and we need to heed each of these themes as we try to assess and address our current context.
