All Day in the Stand

Any man can sit a treestand for the first hour. The separation happens at hour four, when nothing has moved, the seat has turned to stone, and the phone in the pocket starts whispering. The old-timers say most bucks are killed in the window right after most hunters quit. The woods reward the man still there.David — who spent years waiting between his anointing and his crown — wrote the sitter's psalm: Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. Notice waiting isn't passive in that verse. It takes strength. It takes heart. Waiting on God is one of the most active things a man ever does.Maybe you're at hour four of something — a prayer not yet answered, a situation not yet moved, a promise not yet kept. Everything in you wants to climb down. Don't. The God you're waiting on is never late, and His best often walks out right after most men quit the stand.Prayer:Lord, I'm tired of waiting on some things — You know which ones. Everything in me wants to climb down and force an outcome.Give me the strength to wait well: alert, hopeful, faithful. You are worth waiting for, and Your timing has never once been wrong. Amen.Challenge:Name the thing you're most tempted to quit waiting on God about. Instead of climbing down, double down: pray for it every day this week, and add fasting from one comfort as a way of saying 'I'm staying in the stand.'
