All In, Week 4: Waiting vs Willing

from Freedom Church

(Colossians 2:6-7) (NLT) And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. (Colossians 2:8) (NLT) Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. Title: Waiting vs. Willing God doesn’t measure my life based on what I do, but based on what I do with what He has given to me.  A calling is: Bringing glory to God by faithfully displaying His grace to the world through our life. (Isaiah 61:3) …They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. (1 Peter 4:10) (NIRV) God’s gifts of grace come in many forms. Each of you has received a gift in order to serve others. You should use it faithfully. Calling Myths: 1.    MYTH: My calling is passive. TRUTH: My calling is active. A calling can keep you so focused on the future that God has for you that you don’t forfeit that future for temporary fulfillment.  In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love. –Mother Teresa 2.    My calling is singular. TRUTH: My calling is plural. (Ephesians 4:15-16) (NIV) …we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work. 3.    My calling is in the future. TRUTH: My calling is now. (Psalm 84:5-7) (NIV) Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage. (Psalm 84:5-7) (NIV) As they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. (Psalm 84:5-7) (NIV) They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion. 4.    My calling is a place. TRUTH: My calling is about the person I’m becoming. (Acts 17:28) (NIV) For in him we live and move and have our being. If you cannot do the good that you would, do the good that you can. –Chuck Swindoll Willing is: The practice of proactive waiting.   It’s not “what you would”, it’s “what you can.” (2 Corinthians 3:18) (NLT) So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.
