All the Favorite Numbers
from The TodCast Podcast Hosted by Todd Hersey
In a mathematically chaotic episode of the TodCast PodCast, Todd and Eric go deep—we're talking irrational-number deep—into the idea of favorite numbers. Why do we have them? What makes one number superior to another? And what do Kevin Garnett, Jackie Robinson, AOL email addresses, and WrestleMania IX have to do with it? Eric’s number is 21—thanks to Deion Sanders, Kevin Garnett, and his 2003 graduation Todd prefers 42—thanks to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, not Jackie Robinson (although it confused his softball team) A full breakdown of email address evolution: from AOL to Gmail to egotistical custom domains What your pin might say about you—and what it said about Todd's love for bounty hunters Birthdates, phone numbers, zip codes, and the ancient art of choosing a screen name Roman numeral shoutouts (mostly IX), some biblical math, and a surprise love for negative numbers Eric makes the case for 3.14 as a punchline and Todd tests people with “Pi” in number games This is the kind of episode where you’ll learn way too much about someone’s passwords (from 1999) and discover whether your favorite number makes you quirky, nostalgic, or mildly suspicious.
