For the Cleveland Guardians, it's March 14th. Here's what's happening. Make sure you're subscribed so you never miss an update. Logan Allen had a rough return to Cleveland Guardians spring training after pitching for Panama in the World Baseball Classic.
In their game against the San Diego Padres, he allowed six earned runs over two and two-thirds innings, leading to an 8-5 loss at Peoria Stadium. The trouble came in the third inning when Allen walked the first two batters, and the bases loaded up quickly. Miguel and Dujar then crushed a grand slam on a fastball, his third homer of the spring, putting the Padres ahead for good. This outing hurts Allen's chances in the battle for the fifth starter spot against fellow lefty Parker Messick.
He threw 68 pitches with seven hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. The Guardians fought back with five runs, including a homer from Petey Halpin, who's hitting 320 with a strong on-base plus slugging mark. Chase DeLauder and Jose Ramirez added key hits while the bullpen shut things down late. Meanwhile, rookie May Colado hit a solo shot in the ninth.
Stephen Kwan sat out with upper respiratory issues. Cleveland faces the Athletic Sunday at 4.05 p.m. with Tanner Bybee starting. This story is made possible by our sponsor.
