Alonso’s Goalkeeper Audition | Chelsea F.C. News

Chelsea’s win over Fulham sets the stage for a tactical audition in their upcoming Carabao Cup clash with Luton Town. With key players like Caicedo and Palestra sidelined, coach Xabi Alonso sees this as the perfect chance to rotate the squad and test emerging talent — including debuts for Chavarría, Barco, and Quenda. But the real focus is on goalkeeping: Robert Sánchez’s shaky performance has opened the door for Mike Penders, whose strong showing here could force a permanent shift in the starting XI. While Chelsea is expected to win comfortably, Alonso’s real metric is individual impact — especially from Penders — who could earn his first Premier League start if he steps up. This cup game isn’t just about advancing; it’s about evaluating, reshaping, and deciding who belongs in the future.
