Alphabet 2025: AI Infrastructure, Financial Results, and Scaling Waymo
from The Money Lab · host Norse Studio
Alphabet is a powerful holding company that owns Google and other innovative technology firms. Its operations are divided into three main pillars: Google Services, Google Cloud, and Other Bets. Google Services includes some of the world’s most popular products, such as the search engine, the YouTube video platform, the Android operating system, the Chrome browser, and a range of hardware devices. Most of the revenue in this segment is generated from digital advertising, as well as a rapidly growing consumer subscription business that includes services such as YouTube Premium and Google One.At the end of 2025, Alphabet announced that its annual revenue had surpassed the USD 400 billion mark for the first time in its history. This success was driven by strong performance in search and accelerated growth in the cloud solutions division. YouTube alone confirmed its strong market position by generating more than USD 60 billion in annual revenue from both advertising and subscription fees. The company identified artificial intelligence as its most important area for future investment and development. The introduction of the Gemini 3 model marked a key milestone for the company in the field of artificial intelligence. These models are characterized by exceptional performance and the ability to understand and process enormous volumes of data, including text, images, and audio. The Gemini application gained massive popularity, reaching over 750 million monthly active users. These models process more than 10 billion tokens per minute through direct customer queries. In addition, the core search engine uses generative artificial intelligence to help users ask complex questions and receive clear, concise summaries of information.Google Cloud has benefited significantly from the growing demand for artificial intelligence tools and infrastructure. Most enterprise customers now use its advanced solutions to improve their own business processes. The profitability of this segment has been steadily increasing as global scale expands, reaching an annual revenue run rate of over USD 70 billion. To support these advanced technologies, Alphabet expects capital expenditures in 2026 to range between USD 175 billion and USD 185 billion. A significant portion of these funds will be allocated to the construction and maintenance of powerful data centers essential for artificial intelligence workloads. A key component of this infrastructure is Alphabet’s proprietary chips known as Tensor Processing Units (TPUs). These processors are developed in collaboration with partners such as Broadcom and are optimized for large-scale computational models. This strategy allows the company to operate more efficiently compared to relying on standard off-the-shelf hardware. The Other Bets segment focuses on pioneering projects, the most prominent of which is Waymo, a company specializing in autonomous driving. Waymo recently raised USD 16 billion in new capital to expand its robotaxi services to more than twenty cities, including its first international markets such as London and Tokyo. The technology has already driven more than 127 million miles autonomously, with data showing a 90% reduction in crashes involving serious injuries compared to human-driven vehicles.Alphabet employs a specific share structure to manage corporate governance. Class A shares grant investors one vote per share, while Class C shares carry no voting rights. Nevertheless, both classes receive identical dividends of USD 0.21 per share. Founders and insiders maintain control of the company through Class B shares, which carry ten votes per share but are not publicly traded. The company remains committed to developing technology in a responsible and socially beneficial manner, prioritizing the safety and interests of its users and shareholders. Hosted on Acast.
