well hello welcome to the daily grateful my name is michael cross and i'm here to talk about gratitude and the gratitude i wish to talk about tonight is to my junior high school principal milton galbraith who i am sure is now living in the beyond when i first came to dunedin junior high school the very first day i was there well i did a couple of things i reinvented myself the first name used to be something else and i changed it to michael how's that i did that when john tenuto walked up to me and said hi i'm john tenuto and i said hi i'm michael cross instead of the name i was born with i totally reinvented myself that day but the other thing we then went to a um to the to the gymnasium where they had all seats set up and they had a stage up there and mr galbraith came out and it was like an opening talk for all of us and he had a couple of kids come out with different signs i remember only one of those signs and on the sign it said always do what you know is right let me say that again always do what you know is right now let's interpret that a little bit don't do what you think is right you know he came up and he talked about that he says never do what you think is right that's better than doing nothing but he said always do what you know is right i've always kind of lived by that and when i have lived by that when i have always done what i know is right i found that i had a lot of stuff to be grateful for when i did what i thought was right not so much yeah that was just knowing this all these years and teaching it to all of my children all five of my children you can ask anyone they'll tell you the same story always do what you know is right today when i was getting ready to do this podcast i decided to google that so i typed into google always do what you know is right came up with some weird stuff but then i said let's use the generative ai experimental to learn more so i punched that little button and they came up with a quote from norman swartzkopf general norman swartzkopf he said the truth of the matter is that you always know the right thing to do the hard part is doing it some examples of doing the right thing include according to the google listen i'm reading this for the very first time right here right now making decisions that are not based on personal needs i don't know if i agree with that what's next doing what's best for the greater good well if you're doing what you know is right you're doing something for the greater good that only makes sense maintaining character while no one is watching yeah makes sense staying positive focusing on something else i don't know what that even means continuing to be who you are treating people with kindness and compassion all of those things come from always doing what you know is right so on this wonderful monday i will say to you and my advice to you is the following and it's real simple i wish i remember the name of the kid who held up the sign it's right in the back of my brain but it's real simple it's on the sign that mr galbraith had one of the kids hold up on the stage at dunny junior high school in september of 1965 and this is my advice to you always do what you know is right and by doing so you will find immense things in your life to be grateful for doing what you think is right you're gonna find some things that you're but you might really screw up so always do what you know is right so once again that's the simple little lesson for today simple as can be always do what you know is right now when we come back tomorrow which is tuesday we're gonna go over something else from my life that is very simple that actually came from the year before that when i met the town constable of a little town called hernando florida north of inverness not the county little town north of inverness florida town constable told me something that i continue to live by this day i've talked to you with you about this before in past many of you are new i'm going to talk about it again and expound on it tomorrow remember always do what you know is right and be grateful
