AMATEUR BASEBALL: Offense tough to come by for A's in loss to Cubs

WORTHINGTON — The Pipestone Athletics and Worthington Cubs were locked in a pitcher’s dual Sunday, July 12 in Gopher League action. Unfortunately for Pipestone, the team found itself on the business end of a 1-0 loss at Trojan Field. As A’s coach Avery Ploeger explained, the only run that scored was unearned. “Mark (Abrahamson) had 11 strikeouts and Matt (Geister) pitched phenomenally,” Ploeger said. The A’s continue to play competitive baseball; however, their record dropped to 4-12 heading into the regular-season finale Sunday, July 19 at Hadley. The playoff ramifications are monumental.
