Ambassador Academy, episode 4 - The Doctrine of Scripture: Authority & Inerrancy

from The Blue Collar Scholar · host Will Reitz

Christianity is a doctrinal religion that is entirely dependent upon God's revealed Word in the Holy Bible. But what is the Bible? In this episode, we will look at 2 aspects of Scripture: Authority & Inerrancy. The Authority of Scripture means that the words of Scripture are God's Word in such a way that to disbelieve or to disobey Scripture is to disbelieve or disobey God. Inerrancy, a doctrine that many Christians do not defend, is the teaching that the Bible is without error. The logic here is that IF the Holy Spirit is the ultimate Author of Scripture, then He would not allow any clear error into Scripture. There are, of course, several caveats, as the Bible is a series of documents written in a different time and to different cultures, so our culturally-defined definition of what is or is not an error may not precisely line up with the authors of Scripture. For instance, direct quotation was not really a thing to the authors of Scripture. So, accurately reporting the content of a speaker's speech is what matters, not necessarily getting at voice-recorder-level exact quotation.
