Ambrose Bierce | An Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge

Ambrose Bierce was an American writer, journalist and Civil War (1861-1865) veteran who fought on the Union side. He was one of ten children, all of whose names started with the letter "A". Bierce joined the 9th Indiana Infantry as a Private at the start of the war, and later earned an officer's commission, and was wounded at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. He wrote extensively about his war experience, and "An Occurrence at Owl Creek" is probably his best known story. It first published in the San Francisco Examiner in 1890. If you're ever at Shiloh National Military Park in southern Tennessee, you'll find a quote by Private Ambrose Bierce of the plaque near "Bloody Pond" which briefly describes the aftermath of the battle.Thank you for listening!
