Amends Accepted, Honor Renewed (Homer’s The Odyssey, Book VIII – Part 14)

Harsh words are answered with humility, and pride gives way to peace. What was wounded is restored through gift and blessing.   In this passage from The Odyssey, Book VIII, Euryalus places a silver-adorned sword into Odysseus’ hands and offers heartfelt amends for his earlier insult. Odysseus accepts the gift and the apology with gracious words, sealing reconciliation between them.
