“America, God Shed His Grace on Thee”: Providential Events in the Founding of the United States

from Marathon Fellowship Class · host Stonebriar Community Church

During the War of Independence and the founding era, numerous events occurred for which the Founders had no explanation–they could only attribute their good fortune to a superior being, and they regularly used words like “providence,” “divine protection,” “the Invisible Hand,” and “the Supreme Judge” to describe His help. These are the stories of some of the many occurrences that the Founders attributed to God’s Providence. Carl’s Outline Download

We live in a world where social class is valued more than human quality. We live in a world where books and culture take second place, where money, lust and perversions are more vital than knowledge. We live in a world where we have forgotten traditions, values and God. Lewis's The Last Battle St. Philip's Church: Charleston, SC Come join us on Wednesday nights as we explore the riches of C.S. Lewis’s marvelous book The Last Battle, which is the last of The Chronicles of Narnia. It is a remarkable book on multiple levels and was awarded the Carnegie Medal back in the 1950s when it was first published. The Last Battle has some themes in common with The Great Divorce and That Hideous Strength that will make it an excellent follow-up to those two books, and like them, it has some remarkable resonance with things going on in today’s culture. It is a book that is both theologically rich and poignantly beautiful in its writing, and it can help equip us to live boldly for Christ in a culture that has lost its way. (Although this book is the last of The Chronicles of Narnia, it can stand on its own and it is not necessary to have read the other books for this class.)
