Established in 1987, AFSP serves as the largest private funder of suicide prevention research and offers programs for those at risk, those who have lost someone, and anyone wanting to help, operating through local chapters in all 50 states.  Core Mission & Activities Research: Funds scientific studies to understand suicide and develop effective interventions, making them a major catalyst for new strategies. Education: Conducts programs in schools, workplaces, and communities to create a culture that's smart about mental health and recognizes warning signs.
