Americans Remember Gander’s Kindness | Calgary News

Americans stranded in Gander, Newfoundland, after 9/11 are gathering to honor the kindness shown by Canadians—and to remind the world that most Americans still deeply value their friendship with Canada. Amid current political tensions and trade disputes, the commemoration focused on compassion, featuring the charity Pay It Forward 9/11, founded by a stranded passenger, Kevin Tuerff. He spoke movingly about how U.S. government rhetoric doesn’t reflect the true sentiment of the American people, who overwhelmingly love their Canadian neighbors. The event was a powerful reaffirmation of enduring ties, with applause echoing the message: America’s heart remains open to Canada—even as politics strains the surface.
