Support includes: 79% of Republicans 54% of Independents 35% of Democrats (notably high for that party) 2. Public Support for Stronger Immigration Laws 63–64% support laws preventing illegal immigrants from obtaining commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs). Even 40% of Democrats support blocking CDLs for illegal immigrants. 3. Attitudes Toward Enforcement Americans largely want: Greater cooperation between local law enforcement and ICE (honoring ICE detainers). Less reliance on heavy federal raids.
