In 2019, a groundbreaking study published in science revealed a devastating decline in North American bird populations. The findings were alarming: since 1970, the continent has lost nearly one-third of its birds. For instance, western forest bird populations have dropped by almost 30 percent, while grassland birds have declined by a staggering 53 percent. Yet not all news is bleak. Some bird groups have experienced remarkable recoveries in recent years.
