MCALLEN, Texas - Retired former U.S. Rep. Rubén Hinojosa had a front row seat in the audience for the announcement that Manny Vela will be the new chief operating officer of Texas A&M Higher Education Center at McAllen.This was fitting as Hinojosa played a key role in the discussions that led to the establishment of the center in 2018. Along with his wife Marty, an A&M alum, Hinojosa donated $275,000 to start the center’s first endowment. Hinojosa was given a shoutout more than once from the stage.
