An Interview with Lauren Ingledow - Part 1 - Episode 7

from Care OutLoud · host Mary Coughlin

I’m so excited I get to speak with Lauren Ingledow, pioneer, advocate and co-founder of the Adult Preemie Advocacy Network.  Lauren was born at 26 weeks gestation weighing in at 430g.  Her early birth was the consequence of pre-eclampsia.  The combined impact of prematurity associated with pre-eclampsia has had an on-going but often subtle impact on her life, which has been often overlooked and misunderstood by educators and healthcare professionals over the course of her life to date! With a First-Class degree in Applied Animal Studies and a qualified Canine Hydrotherapist, Lauren has primarily worked in veterinary rehabilitation, in an education setting (Agriculture College / University), and has supported students with learning differences. Although she did not qualify for learning support during her formative development, Lauren acknowledges that her personal struggles in education have helped her support others. The Adult Preemie Advocacy Network started in Jan 2021 and grew from its humble beginnings as a group of adults born prematurely chatting online sharing their lived experiences. Lauren shares her life and home with, Izzy her Miniature Schnauzer who was the runt of her litter and Lauren is grateful that Izzy chose her to be her “mum” – they are truly kindred spirits!
