An Introduction to New Citizen of the Old Country
from New Citizen of the Old Country Film and Book Club private podcast
Szia! I’m Tara Gadomski, an actor, filmmaker and writer at New Citizen of the Old Country, a blog that details my long journey to dual citizenship of Hungary and the US, and explores culture of Hungary and the Transcarpathia region. You might be here on my Patreon site because you already know about my blog and you’d like to support it! Or maybe because you have heard about my book and film club and want to join, or maybe you found this accidentally. In all cases, welcome! On this Patreon site you can support the blog, with a monthly or one-time donation (and thank you!) But mostly, this Patreon site is for the book and film club. So here’s a little more about how the club works:As a way to learn more about culture from Hungary and Transcarpathia, we watch and discuss a film one month and read and discuss a book the next month. So in a year, you’ll watch six films and read six novels, mostly Hungarian. It's a great way to quickly learn a lot about The Old Country (which is especially helpful if you are studying for the Simplified Naturalization Process.) Along with a curated selection of books and films, I’ll also post two members-only videos a month. These videos are highly researched mini-lessons. One video will be about about the writer or director whose work we are exploring, and the second video will be a deeper dive into something in the book or movie… for example, an historical reference, a food recipe, or a cultural tradition. Then we’ll meet every month on Zoom to discuss the book or film, and create a fun community. So again, welcome. I hope that you’ll join the club and/or support the blog. I am excited to get this Patreon started and connect with all of you! Tara Gadomski
