An Unfinished Task

“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6 (NKJV) Years ago, when I was part of a singing group, one song I sang was titled, “An Unfinished Task.” The other day, as I was trying to organize my little junk room, I came across so many unfinished projects. I came across a scarf, half-finished because I was trying to use a device from the craft store that made it look so easy . . . it wasn’t. Then there was the picture I had started painting . . . unfinished because I am not a painter. In a box was a pair of children’s moccasins . . . half-finished. I found some fish scale art that I had started. I had washed, dried, and dyed all those slimy little scales . . . only to leave them as another project left to take up space. I was going to learn to cook. I bought cookbooks from every venue you can imagine . . . only to leave them in a drawer in the kitchen, never used. Even though I am an avid reader, I found two books that I had not completed reading. By now, I was getting so discouraged seeing what a “quitter” I was. I had to quit looking and close the door. Another job I left half done — I never did finish organizing that sad little junk room. Looking at all my projects (and there were probably more), I thought of that “Unfinished Task” song. Part of it says: “I dare not relax until I’ve done all He’s asked. Lest I should leave behind an unfinished task.” I was thinking how blessed we are that God doesn’t leave us half-finished. He has promised in His Word that He would never leave us nor forsake us.
