An "UnWoke Racist Fantasia" (w/ Glen Rockney)

from System of Systems · host Adam Lehrer, Matthew Denicola

Friend of the show and co-host of the Rare Candy podcast Glen Rockney joins the boys to discuss the career of who we think is the best American filmmaker to emerge in the 2010s, S. Craig Zahler. Discussing all three of his films — Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in Cell Block 99, and Dragged Across Concrete — the trio pinpoints the artistically interesting formal qualities that have separated Zahler from his contemporaries as one of the emerging film artists to celebrate: extreme length, genre subversion, hyperviolence, dialog, and more. They also try and parse Zahler's unique ideological viewpoint that seems to cross a Marxian critique of political economy with dissident right and conservative analysis of the lost values in American life. The career of Mel Gibson is also given the once-over.   We also briefly discuss the low energy cancellation of Dom Fernow.
