 Members from the Economic Community of West African States, or ECOWAS, together with the African Union are meeting to discuss the crisis in Niger. The summit is expected to discuss using force to return Niger to constitutional democracy. ECOWAS had given officers who seized power in Niamey on July 26th a seven-day ultimatum to reinstate President Mohamed Bazoum or face the potential use of force, a warning the junta defied. Oliver Dickson spoke to Dr Christian Ani, Senior Researcher and Project Coordinator at the Institute for Security Studies
